Very useful reference guide and convenient for bankers or investors restructuring of distressed debt. Probably too generic for lawyers with bankruptcy experience. The text and examples are presented efficiently and the author does a superb job of distilling the bankruptcy code in an easy to read. The chapter on valuation is not that matter more common to read in any book of corporate finance. A case study and further discussion on term sheets bankruptcy and negotiating tactics have made this book more worthy of praise.

Although useful and well written, the book seems more appropriate for executives or managers of businesses operating that may be faced with the prospect of bankruptcy. A good summary of how the process unfolds, players, objectives, legal issues and procedures. The managers of an operation of financial difficulties often carry a different toolbox of skills and experience, and therefore, this book would be well worth the introduction. However, for investors in this book is somewhat superficial and lacks the "roll-up-your-sleeves of the education needed to invest. In most cases, top management is fired because creditors understandably little confidence in those who have mismanaged or were responsible for the failure of the company in the first place. So I figured before the public may not be appropriate nor most of the individuals that surface after a Plan. For investors or others, I urge you to consider: "Distressed Debt Analysis: Strategies for speculative investors" by Stephen G. Moyer. It is more expensive, but its a much better book on this subject. Moyer is a stronger writer and seems to have more experience in the field of G. Newton. Both books do not include reforms to the Bankruptcy Code 2005, so that could update it separately.
